Adding on to this I think this Sub materials would be pretty cool or Simple material browser would pretty well

The Sub materials that I linked allows multiple materials on one prop
Simple material browser is self explanatory (you browse materials and it copies them to toolgun)

This seems like a pretty solid addition, if it doesn't mess with clientside/serverside lag that is. Will have to run it by Noob and see what we can do.​
